Solar Radiation Physical Modeling Graduate Research Assistant

LASP's Solar Influences group has an opening for a graduate student to work on the physical modeling of the solar radiation that is carried by the Solar Influences group. The selected person will have a broad interest in the solar radiation and its effects on Earth, as well as a specific interest on the physical processes that produce and transmit electromagnetic radiation in the Sun and Earth upper atmosphere. Basic knowledge of spectroscopy and atomic physics are required for this position and interest in the computational aspects of these subjects are beneficial. The position is for one year duration and extension may be available contingent on performance and available funding.
The ideal candidate is a current graduate student in Physics, or an undergraduate senior who plans to attend grad school next fall at CU.
Required coursework : E&M (Griffiths level, phys 3320-3330 or equivalent) and some introductory plasma physics (4150 or equivalent), some familiarity with differential equations is also required.
The time commitment is 20 hrs/wk minimum as required by GRA standards during the school year and full-time over the summers.
